Mark your calendar for Camp Apasus Open House ( a free event) on March 22 from 9 to 11 a.m. located at 8420 Granby St, Norfolk, VA 23503. You can find out about summer Girl Scout camp opportunities throughout the area and get information about becoming connected with Girl Scouts! There’s so many ways to participate in Girl Scouting, camping is just one of the many ways. Girls in K-12 grades can find adventure, friends and more as a Girl Scout.
Camping is a great way for girls to explore their world, build new skills, and develop a deep appreciation for nature, all while having a blast with a bunch of new friends! No matter what your child is interested in (archery, swimming, crafts, hiking or adventure trips) she can have a great summer at Girl Scout camp and you can rest easy knowing she’s happy, healthy, and safe. With all of the camp options out there, why choose Girl Scout camp?
- Our camp staff are amazing! We have qualified, energetic, and kid-tested staff who thoroughly enjoy spending time outdoors mentoring youth. They are trained to help girls through common hurdles at camp such as homesickness, conflict resolution, and crisis management so no matter what happens, the girls are supported and safe.
- Our camp is just for girls. When girls are surveyed about camp, they consistently say the fact that camp is for “girls only” is something they love. They can feel free to talk about issues they wouldn’t necessarily talk about with boys, try out new activities without a fear of failure, and experience less pressure to look or act a certain way.
- Our camps have high standards. We are committed to providing a safe environment for our girls. We also adhere to Girl Scouts of the USA’s Safety Activity Checkpoints for all our activities.
- Our camps are electronics-free zones! Do your girls need a nature reboot? Have you ever taken them hiking and they spent the whole time on their phone? At camp girls are highly encouraged to unplug and leave the electronics at home as they experience nature first hand, no Instagram filters allowed. They’ll be amazed as their camp time flies by without status updates and monitoring feeds.
- Our camps have schedules with flexibility. Having a consistent structure is the key to a well-run camp and girls quickly become accustomed to their daily schedule. However, the counselors also build in time for the campers to make their own decisions, choose their own activities, and take charge — everything in Girl Scouting is “girl-led” after all!
- All of our fun camp themes include time to connect with nature. Spending time outdoors has many benefits for mental health. Sending a child to Girl Scout camp means they’ll be spending a significant portion of their day outside, which means increased problem solving and decreased anxiety, depression, and other issues. Who wouldn’t want that for their kid?
With all these great reasons to send your girl to Girl Scout camp, what are you waiting for? There’s so much fun and excitement in store for our 2025 camp season! Choose from day or overnight sessions and register today at gsccc.org/camp.
